RE-ELECTED AND NEWLY ELECTED
BOARD OF DIRECTORS 




INCUMBENT



 

Stephen J.P. Kupiszewski was born in Lake Whales, Florida. He came to Arizona in 1981 as an All-American on a swimming scholarship to Arizona State University and was team captain for the 1984-85 season. Also during the 1984-85 school year, Stephen was president of the Volunteers for Youth program, serving underprivileged children in the Phoenix area. He graduated with a B.S. in 1986. Like his father, he attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama graduating in December of 1989.
 
Stephen was appointed to the superior court bench as a Commissioner and began his career as a judicial officer on August 3, 2003. Through the rotation process, Stephen has presided over Criminal, Family, Probate, Juvenile, Mental Health, Tax and Civil calendars. He retired from his last rotation on March 29, 2013. After two long days in retirement, Steve opened his law practice working as Of-Counsel at the law firm of Kile and Kupiszewski with his wife Jennifer and her law partner, Emily Kile. Steve has focused primarily on Mediation and Litigation services in probate, and family court cases. 
 
He married Jennifer in January of 2009. They have a blended family with 5 children: Michael, 33, Stephen, 32, Joseph 30, Ashley, 27 and Alexis 26. All having obtained college degrees and meaningful employment. 
 
Steve is currently serving as a board member of the Scottsdale Bar Association and is chairperson of the membership committee and is looking for additional volunteers.



Tricia Schafer has represented entities of all sizes and a diverse array of professionals in numerous complex commercial controversies over the past 27 years. Tricia seeks a second term on the Scottdale Bar Association Board. Highlights of her first term include active participation and leadership on the Technology Committee (engaging and collaborating with a professional to set up and operate presentation equipment at our monthly luncheons) and the Nominating Committee (identifying talent to run for open seats on our Board).

After a small-town upbringing on the Oregon Coast, Tricia earned her B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and her J.D. from Georgetown Law. After three years as in-house counsel in New York, Tricia relocated to Arizona in 1998, where she was a commercial litigator at large and mid-sized firms, as well as a staff attorney at the Court of Appeals, prior to establishing her own business litigation practice in 2011.

Tricia serves on the Maricopa County Bar Association Litigation Section Board (2021-), the Scottsdale Bar Association Board (2019-), and the City of Scottsdale Judicial Appointments Advisory Board (2020-), and is an American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section Fellow (2020-2022). Tricia holds mediation certifications from the Center for Conflict Resolution and the American Institute of Mediation, and serves as an arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association’s National Roster.

Tricia is also known for her dual career as a fitness professional, certified by the American Council on Exercise since 2002. She continues to be inspired by the dozens of lawyers, judges, and businesspeople with whom she has worked to enhance and maintain healthy lifestyles.

David A. Fitzgerald is a long time member of the Scottsdale Bar Association. He is a former director of the association and is greatly interested in an opportunity to serve in that capacity again. As a director, David participated on the speakers’ committee and nominating committee.

David has practiced in Scottsdale with his colleagues at Titus Brueckner & Levine PLC for over 20 years. He is an AV rated lawyer. He is admitted to practice in Arizona, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. His practice focuses primarily on civil litigation, including commercial cases and other civil and appellate matters. David also has substantial experience in a variety of transactional matters, and continues to provide representation in such matters.

David obtained his J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law. While in law school, he earned CALI awards in business organizations, federal taxation, and commercial law. He was the American Bankruptcy Law Institute Medalist. He was a notes and comments editor for the Connecticut Law Review.
David previously served as an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, Sandra Day O’Conner College of Law, where he taught a course on Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code. He has presented before the Real Property and Securities Sections of the State Bar of Arizona. He was an officer in the United States Army Reserve. He is a past director of the Scottsdale Bar Association, the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley YMCA, and the Grayhawk Community Association. David resides in Scottsdale with his wife Laura, their son Bryce and their daughter Emily.




Andrew Wenker is an attorney at the Scottsdale firm of Lang & Klain, P.C., practicing in the commercial litigation and construction practice groups since joining the firm at the beginning of 2019.  As an Arizona native, he earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Arizona State University. Andrew looks to take on a more active role in the Scottsdale Bar Association by becoming a board member, with his goals being to help usher in the next generation of attorneys while maintaining the proud tradition of the Scottsdale Bar Association.  In his free time, Andrew enjoys attempting to keep his plants alive, and hiking with his wife and their dog.




Ken Witt is new to Scottsdale, having escaped from the snows of Colorado last April with his wife, AÍda, and their cat, Simon. A partner with Kutak Rock LLP, Ken has practiced corporate and securities law for over 38 years in Boston, Denver and, now, Scottsdale.

Ken looks forward to the growth of the corporate legal practice in this beautiful city. He believes that the SBA can be a positive force for attracting business to the community and helping Scottsdale attorneys provide the very highest levels of service. He would be honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the SBA.
Ken, a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. His practice emphasizes mergers and acquisitions, venture-backed companies and institutional private equity investment. Ken is an extremely proud father of three and grandfather of one and enjoys hiking and mountain biking in Brown’s Ranch.
