Michael Burg and Holly Kammerer will discuss Beecher, et al. v. Biological Resource Corporation, et al., CV2015-013391, Maricopa County Superior Court. In 2019, Michael and Holly secured a $58.5 million dollar verdict in compensatory and punitive damage for families who had donated bodies of their deceased loved ones to the Biological Resource Center. They represented the victims of a fraudulent scheme to illegally sell human body parts of their loved one’s bodies that were supposed to be donated for scientific and medical education and research. The verdict is one of the largest civil case results in Arizona history. They will go through a brief timeline of the case, discuss many of the pertinent facts that made the case into a $58.5M jury verdict, along with the various steps along the way to this ultimate success, including the appeal.  The point of the presentation will be not just the actual case, but also the idea that not all cases resolve quickly and trial lawyers have to be prepared to stick with it for the long haul. It’s kind of a “never give up” presentation that follows the facts of this specific case.

Michael S. Burg is one of America’s leading trial lawyers, a best-selling author, legal expert, and founding shareholder of Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine.  During his 43-year career, Burg has been a vigilant consumer watchdog, representing thousands of individuals. He has taken on big pharma in multiple dangerous drug mass tort cases.  Burg fought against UBS for knowingly selling risky mortgages to investors, creating the blueprint for many similar actions by states, municipalities, government regulators, and other aggrieved investors. More recently, Burg filed a sweeping action against 28 California wineries to stop them from selling toxic wine contaminated with arsenic.

Holly Baer Kammerer currently focuses her practice on personal injury, products liability, and commercial litigation. She has practiced law since 1992 and has vast experience in litigation and all trial-related aspects of personal injury cases and business disputes. Ms. Kammerer joined Burg Simpson in 1996 and became a shareholder in 1999. As a senior female shareholder of the firm, for more than a decade she has developed and managed the firm’s large multi-state single event personal injury department. She is the recipient of many awards and recognition for her work.  She is also active in charity work in her community.
